Power outage throughout the house

A power outage throughout your home can have the following causes:

  • There is a general power outage in your area. This must be resolved by the grid operator.
  • The main fuse is broken, the grid operator will also have to be contacted for this. The main fuse is located in a sealed cabinet and may only be opened by the grid operator or a qualified electrician.
  • The earth leakage circuit breaker is switched off. Check the fuse box and switch the earth leakage circuit breaker back on (press the reset button if necessary). If the fuses switch back on immediately, this means that there is a current leak or that they are overloaded. One way to test this is to disconnect all devices from the mains. Switch the earth leakage circuit breaker back on and reconnect all devices to the mains.
As soon as you add a device back and the earth leakage trips again, you know which device is the cause.

Using many power-consuming devices on one group can cause a fuse to blow. In general, an electrical group is often set to a maximum capacity of 3000 watts. For example, a washing machine or dryer often needs 2000-2500 watts. If you turn on a coffee machine (650 watts) on the same group at the same time, the fuse will blow or the machine will close. This is a safety feature to prevent fire.
