Counter
The tenant must maintain the countertop themselves. This means that the tenant must wipe it down and clean it daily, using the cleaning products intended for this purpose. The kitchen cabinets and kitchen unit also fall under the tenant’s obligations. If the equipment breaks down due to careless use, the tenant is liable. For example, the tenant is responsible for replacing a light bulb in the extractor hood and the landlord for replacing a broken motor.
What not to do:
- Placing hot pans on the counter without a trivet
- Using a scouring pad
- Use chemical cleaning agents other than dishwashing liquid or all-purpose cleaner
Extractor hood
The tenant must maintain the extractor hood and change the filters. The landlord must repair the extractor hood unless it was broken by the tenant.
There are two filter systems. The first system has an exhaust to the outside via a connection to the exhaust hood. The second system is the recirculation hood. This has a carbon filter that must be replaced at least once every three months. The filters suck away the water vapour, the fats and other contaminants remain in the filter. When the filter is very saturated with fat, it can easily catch fire, which is dangerous. In addition, it no longer has a filtering effect and the cooking odours can no longer be sucked away.
New filters are available at the supermarket or parts store. The filter is located between the base plate with a metal frame and holes. Replacing it is easy. Modern cooker hoods have filters that can be clicked out completely and can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
For cleaning, use a kitchen cleaner, all-purpose cleaner or undiluted dishwashing liquid on a cloth. It is important not to forget the top, which is often greasy and dirty. A scouring pad should not be used on a stainless steel extractor hood, as this will cause scratches.
Dishwasher
The tenant must carry out maintenance and minor repairs to the dishwasher.
If the dishwasher does not get hot enough during the wash cycle, you can look in the user manual for possible causes and solutions. It may be necessary to give the dishwasher a hard reset: disconnect the power from the dishwasher for 5 minutes. If you cannot reach the plug, you can switch the fuse in the fuse box.
