See if the problem can be solved manually. Often the blockage is caused by a toilet roll or a large wad of paper that blocks the passage. If this is the case, you can quickly solve it by removing it from the toilet with gloves. Click here what to do per blockage.
Drain Unblocker
If you can’t do it by hand, you can use a plunger. Don’t use caustic soda or drain cleaner. These sometimes react with hair and cause an even bigger blockage.
Place the large suction cup directly on the drain. When you press the stick down, you vacuum the space under the cup. The things that were clogged will shoot out of their position, allowing the drain to flush again. The plunger only works if the suction cup is large enough to cover the entire drain. Otherwise, the suction power is less strong. Sometimes it can take 10 to 15 minutes for the blockage to pop loose. If it still doesn’t work, you need to call in an expert.
Handspring
You can also use a hand spring to unclog. Using a rotating motion, insert the spring as far as possible into the sewer. If there is resistance, pull the spring back a bit and try again. If the resistance is persistent, you should call a sewer company.
NB
You should never unscrew the drain of the bath or shower. If you do this and therefore loosen the bolt, the rubbers will slide away and the drain pipe will fall down. You will therefore never need a screwdriver to unclog!
