Is your doorbell or intercom not working anymore? Discover the possible causes!

The specialists at Rotsvast are regularly asked what tenants should do when their doorbell or intercom stops working. High time to list the possible causes for you.

1. The bell has no power

In many cases, a doorbell or intercom is connected to a socket in the meter cupboard. It is possible that the installation has no power. Therefore, check whether the plug is in the socket and whether a fuse has blown.

2. The batteries are empty

Some wireless front doorbells are plugged into a wall socket in the home or work on batteries. If only the bell does not work, it may be that the battery(ies) are empty. The battery is often in the box of the bell system on 220 volts from the bell. With wireless bells, there is a battery in the bell push. If the bell is not plugged into a wall socket, there are also batteries in this.

3. Corrosion on the doorbell

If the doorbell does not work or is malfunctioning, it may be that there is corrosion on the bell push. This is often the case with simple bell pushes. In this case, unscrew the push and clean the copper contact points with, for example, a piece of sandpaper.

4. The intercom system has no power

Often these installations are connected to a socket in the meter cupboard. Check whether the plug is in the socket or whether a fuse has blown. Some wireless front doorbells are in a socket in the home or work on batteries.
