Water taps must be repaired and maintained by the tenant. The cause of a leaking tap is generally a worn “washer”. This worn washer can result in a dripping tap, causing water to be lost. This can be easily solved by replacing the washers. Once the tap is leaking, you can follow the steps below to try to solve this:
- Disconnect the tap
Turn off the main water tap. Pull the knob off the tap. For some taps, you will need to unscrew the screw under the coloured cap. There are many different models of taps that have tap washers in different sizes (in thickness and diameter). Therefore, buy an assortment of tap washers, then you can always be sure that you have one of the right size in your home. - Unscrew the internals
Unscrew the decorative sleeve. Unscrew the internals from the tap. Check whether the gasket in the tap housing is still intact. Tip! A cloth between the jaws of the pliers prevents damage to the decorative sleeve. - Remove leather
Loosen the nut or screw that holds the washer and remove the washer. Then place the washer but make sure it has the same size to prevent further leakage. - Removing limescale
Remove limescale from the tap parts with a descaling agent. Tip! Instead of a descaling agent, you can also use vinegar. Soak the tap parts in it for a few hours.
