Sink blockage

Do you have a blockage in your sink? Here are a few ways to solve it.

Unblocking by hand (plunger or drain snake)
Using a plunger can be a good solution to clear a blockage in the sink. The steps are explained below.
Run water into your clogged sink.

1. Place the plunger over the drain in the sink. Make sure the entire drain hole is covered.
2. By making a pushing and pulling movement with the plunger, you create a pumping movement that, as it were, loosens the dirt.
3. Repeat this movement several times
4. The pulling motion should release the blockage.

Another way to do it by hand and also a way if the blockage is deeper in the drain is to use a drain snake. This allows you to tackle a blockage deeper in the drain.

Unclog sink with baking soda and cleaning vinegar
Soda and cleaning vinegar together create a fizzy effect. In addition, this is an environmentally friendly solution.
Below is a step-by-step plan:

1. Boil water, and pour the boiling hot water into your clogged sink. (The hot water loosens the dirt better)
2. Add a cup of baking soda or crystal soda.
3. Next, pour a cup of cleaning vinegar into your clogged sink. This will create a foaming effect.
4. Rinse with scalding hot water.

Clean the siphon/swan neck
Did the above methods not help? Then try cleaning the siphon (or swan neck). This is the pipe under the sink. The blockage may have accumulated here. You can do this by following the steps below:

1. Place a bucket under the gooseneck and loosen the ring to open the tube.
2. If necessary, drain the water from the sink.
3. Remove any dirt from both parts of the tube and rinse the neck itself thoroughly as well.
4. Screw the gooseneck back onto the connection. Make sure that you put all the anti-leak rings back properly.

Buy and use drain unblocker
As a last resort before calling a plumber, you can use a drain cleaner. Keep in mind that this product is not good for the environment and sometimes also for the sink. Therefore, try to use organic products as much as possible.
